This is a personal favorite, a twist on an old fashioned.
Rock glass
Muddle 2 medium sized orange slices (inner flesh of the orange only), and one maraschino cherry
4 dashes angostura aromatic bitters
1 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces ten cane rum. This is a nice quality golden rum, but any gold will do.
1.5 ounces DeCider
Mix all ingredients then add ice. Roll in a shaker, then return to rocks glass
